Can You Take Your Hobby on Holiday?

Can You Take Your Hobby on Holiday?

The answer is ‘Yes, you can!’ For many hobbyists, the thought of leaving their beloved projects behind when heading off on holiday can be disheartening. However, with a bit of planning and creativity, you can absolutely indulge in your hobby while on holiday.

Personally, I always make room for my hobby when I travel. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a longer trip in our trusty campervan, I manage to pack one or two kits to work on during downtime.

What to Bring

What you pack largely depends on the type of holiday you have planned. Since space is often limited, especially in a campervan, I opt for smaller kits that focus on sub-assemblies, like those with photo-etched frets. These kits are easier to manage and don’t take up much room.

Painting on the road isn’t very practical for me, so instead, I prepare pieces for painting once I’m back home. I always carry a small box (an old ice cream tub works perfectly) filled with essential tools: glue, sanding sticks, tweezers, and a small cutting mat. An old chopping board doubles as a stable work surface that fits nicely on my lap wherever I decide to work.

Local Model Shops - A Must Visit!

No holiday would be complete without a visit to a local model shop. It’s a fantastic opportunity to explore new kits, and have a chat with fellow enthusiasts about their latest projects.

Happy Holidays!

So, next time you’re packing for a holiday, remember that your hobby can come along too. With a bit of preparation and the right mindset, you can enjoy your favourite pastime wherever your travels take you. Happy holidays and happy modeling!
