Following a requirement from the US Navy for a fighter aircraft that could pack a punch for up to 1000 miles. The distinctive gull winged aircraft would earn a fearsome reputation within the US Navy, US Marine Corp and Royal Navy. With an improved canopy design, raised seating position and improved performance this was the most numerous example built.
