About the North American Harvard II
The North American Harvard (also known as the T-6 Texan in US service) was one of the most widely used advanced trainer aircraft of the 20th century. It was designed to bridge the gap between basic flight training and operational combat aircraft, giving pilots experience with more powerful engines, retractable landing gear, and complex handling characteristics.
The Harvard II variant saw extensive use across the Commonwealth air forces, including the Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force. It remained in training service for many years due to its reliability, forgiving handling, and excellent instructional capability.
Even after its military role ended, many Harvards continued flying in civilian and heritage aviation.
