About the Vickers Wellington Mk.II

The Vickers Wellington was designed in the 1930s using an innovative geodetic structure developed by Barnes Wallis. This gave the aircraft exceptional strength and damage resistance, allowing it to sustain heavy combat damage and still return to base.

The Mk.II variant introduced Rolls-Royce Merlin engines in place of earlier powerplants, significantly improving performance at altitude and overall operational capability. It served with RAF Bomber Command during the early to mid-war period, taking part in bombing missions over occupied Europe before later transitioning into maritime patrol and secondary operational roles.
