The Airfix 1:76 WWI Male Tank Mk.I Model Kit recreates one of the most historically significant armoured vehicles ever built. As the world’s first operational tank, the British Mk.I introduced a completely new form of warfare during the First World War, changing battlefield tactics forever.
This detailed 1:76 scale plastic model kit represents the “Male” variant of the Mk.I, equipped with heavier armament in its side sponsons. It is an essential subject for WWI armour enthusiasts and a landmark piece for military history collections.
About the WWI Tank Mk.I
The British Mark I tank was developed in response to the stalemate of trench warfare on the Western Front. Introduced in 1916, it was designed to cross trenches, crush barbed wire, and withstand small arms fire while supporting infantry advances.
The “Male” configuration carried a combination of 6-pounder guns and machine guns mounted in side sponsons, giving it greater offensive capability compared to the “Female” version, which was armed primarily with machine guns.
Although slow and mechanically unreliable by modern standards, the Mk.I proved the concept of armoured warfare and paved the way for all future tank development.
