The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 was first introduced in 1983 to meet US Navy and US Marine Corp requirements. The F model carries on the 'Hornet' name, but the 'Super Hornet' is a very different machine. It has a 25% bigger airframe, new GE engines and an updated avionics suite.
Operators of the Super Hornet are the US Navy and Royal Australian Airforce.
