Designed by Hawker in the mid 1930s, it saw extensive combat use in the early years of WW2. Loved by the pilots who flew it for its stable gun platform characteristics, it shot down more Luftwaffe aircraft during the Battle of Britain than its more famous brother, the Spitfire.
