The Tamiya Cement is a plastic model adhesive used for assembling styrene (plastic) model kits. It is one of the most widely used glues in scale modelling due to its strong bond, ease of use, and clean finish.

What it is

Tamiya Cement is a solvent-type plastic glue, meaning it doesn’t just “stick” parts together—it slightly melts the plastic surfaces, allowing them to fuse into a single solid joint when dried.

What it’s used for

It is designed specifically for:

  • assembling plastic model kits (polystyrene kits)

  • joining aircraft, tanks, ships, and car kit parts

  • bonding seams in fuselages, hulls, and turrets

  • fine assembly work where precision is important

Key features

✔ Strong chemical bond (melts and fuses plastic)
✔ Very clean application (especially Extra Thin version)
✔ Fast setting time
✔ Ideal for precision modelling work
✔ Thin applicator brush built into the cap (Extra Thin)

How it works

  1. Parts are aligned together

  2. Cement is applied along the seam

  3. The solvent melts the plastic slightly

  4. Parts are pressed together

  5. The plastic fuses as the solvent evaporates

This creates a much stronger joint than normal glue.

Advantages

  • produces nearly invisible seams when used correctly

  • allows slight repositioning before setting

  • perfect for detailed kit assembly

  • minimal excess glue marks compared to tube adhesives

Skill level

Beginner to Advanced

Suitable for:

  • beginners learning basic kit assembly

  • experienced modellers doing precise seam work

  • advanced builders working on high-detail kits

Ideal for

  • plastic scale model kits (Tamiya, Revell, Airfix, etc.)

  • aircraft, armour, ship, and car modelling

  • diorama construction

  • fine seam finishing work

Summary

Tamiya Cement is a professional-grade plastic model adhesive that chemically fuses parts together, making it an essential tool for building strong, clean, and accurate scale model kits.
